Cattle wagons were made in large numbers and were a common sight on the rail in all parts of the country until specialised road vehicles eclipsed their use. After their obsolescence, those in a fit enough state were often converted into ale vans for the conveyance of beer. The Dapol model of the cattle van is based on the GWR design, of which over 1300 were built and features:
